Last spring Chad gave Alyssa an assignment to write a report on bears. She had to write a three page report with research from at least 3 different books. She spent over a month with a pile of library books and began her paper. She learned about all the bears from around the world, where they lived, what they ate, and other characteristics. Chad gave her a special reward for completing this assignment, a bear viewing trip. He had made arrangements with a local airline who gave a discount and put her on a waiting list. Several times this summer they have called to let us know they had room, but she never felt that she had finished her project.
On Monday they called again. Chad and I agreed that she had done all the work he had expected of her, so he set up the trip. Yesterday I was able to accompany Alyssa on her trip out to Franklin Lake to see the bears. She loved the flight and sat up in the co pilot seat for the flight out. I don’t think she quit grinning the whole trip. Chad was a hero to offer this to Alyssa, and was also great to go into work late because he stayed home to take care of the other kids in the morning and get them out to Melanie’s.
We got to see town from a far different view, and to see some of the rest of the island.
I knew there were several isolated lodges, but had no idea how many, or that they were quite so isolated. They can only be reached by boat of a float plane. We landed at one lodge to pick up a couple of other guys to the trip.
This was the trip of a life time for Alyssa, and for me too. Aside from the slightly bumpy flight we had an amazing time.
Amazing pictures! Which company did you go with? I would LOVE to go on one!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Alyssa!
